For years the process of preserving food has been a way we were able to enjoy food at its peak of freshness Seafood canneries are within minutes of the docks. Meats, soups and stews are canned within the facilities in which they are prepared. Cortez Florida is still using a fish preservation technique that was used by the Native Americans and shipping it all over the world Farm families have relied on the process of canning to preserve summer’s harvest for the lean winter days that were fast approaching. Canning truly is another way that your garden keeps giving back to you and your family We will be learning how to preserve fresh oranges by making orange marmalade jam processing the fruit in a water bath canner and sealed in an airtight jar This provides a long term shelf life but it tastes so good
