For years the process of preserving food has been a way we were able to enjoy food at its peak of freshness Seafood canneries are within minutes of the docks. Meats, soups, and stews are canned within the facilities in which they are prepared. Cortez, Florida is still using a fish preservation technique that was used by the Native Americans and shipping it all over the world. Farm families have relied on the process of canning to preserve summer’s harvest for the lean winter days that were fast approaching. Canning truly is another way that your garden keeps giving back to you and your family. We will be learning how to preserve fresh muscadine grapes by making grape jelly. We will process the fruit in a water bath canner to make and airtight seal on the jars. This provides a long term shelf life but it tastes so good.

Must be at least 12 years of age or older.
